Giclee (pronounced “jhee-clay”) is a French word meaning “spurting ink”.  A giclee is a high-resolution inkjet print.

Giclee is considered the world’s best technique for reproducing original works of art. Giclee prints look and feel like the original art.

A Giclee is often produced on canvas or a high-quality paper like watercolor paper with archival ink. Archival ink and paper are museum-quality materials designed for longevity and beauty.

Giclee print is made with a combination of 12 different inks to enhance the depth of the art.

While with a regular print, you have a combination of four colors, like for instance with the CMYK4 color combination, Giclée printers use up to 12 individual colors giving the final print of art a much smother gradient transition with more deep, vibrant, and rich color range.

Another special feature of the Giclee prints is their longevity: indeed, the type of archival inks that are used to create these prints won’t fade when displayed in normal indoor conditions, and they guarantee to maintain their brilliance for a lifetime!

The only difference that can be seen in a giclée print when replicating a painting is that there is no 3D texture. That being said, the beauty of a giclée print is that the reproduction is of such high quality that each movement and brushstroke within the piece.

Loose (unstretched) canvas prints are printed using museum-quality pigment-based, archival inks. They are created by printing directly onto an Epson canvas media using the latest inkjet printing technology to ensure that your print has highly detailed image quality.

The print is finished with a matte coating (also named the satin canvas because of the subtle shine that runs through it) that protects the surface against scratches and fingerprints while enhancing the richness and vibrancy of the colors.

Gallery wrap (stretched) canvas prints are beautiful finished works of art, made by printing directly onto the canvas using high-quality, archival inks completely wrapped around the sides of sturdy 1½” thick stretcher bars, eliminating the need for framing. All Giclee prints are finished with a durable clear Satin varnish coating that protects the surface while enhancing the richness and vibrancy of the colors and included hanging hardware. Gallery Wraps are perfect for interior decorating and they also make wonderful gifts.

Besides canvas, you can also request a print on:

  • Smooth Mate Paper: The Epson Enhanced Matte Paper is a smooth, bright-white paper for high-quality photo printing, a perfect choice for those who seek a flat matte surface for prints that do not require gloss. It yields highly saturated images while maintaining excellent highlight and shadow detail that makes it a remarkable solution for any art style print.
